Just a couple of weeks after I finished them, one of my Luffe mittens went missing. I was pretty bummed, especially since this year, we seemed to be having a never ending winter.
Around the same time as the mittens went missing, a nearby yarn store, Unwound, had a thrummed mitten class. This was actually the second one, the first one had filled up before I could get registered.
I had seen thrummed mittens, and was intrigued by the idea. They all look so warm and soft.
But I had never done anything like it, and actually had never really done anything that involved working with unspun wool. The class seemed like the perfect way to learn a new skill and get started on some new mittens.
The class was great! The fee included yarn (Malabrigo worsted), fibre (Malabrigo) and pattern (this one). During the actual class, I managed to get about halfway through the first mitten, which I have since finished.
I struggled with getting the thickness of the thrums even, but by the end of the first mitten, I think I had gotten the hang of it. Some parts of that first mitten are just a bit fluffier than others.
I’m excited to get this finished, just in time to sit in a box all summer!
